School Council Minutes
September 11, 2014

  •  Welcome and Introductions
  •  Overview of School Council/Discussion
  • School Council is an advisory council for the school.
  • Required to meet 4 times per year.
  • Provide input for the school and board on a variety of policies, including dress code, code of conduct, etc.
  • Need to be involved in promoting parent engagement in the school.
  • An avenue for parents to share opinions on general topics such as the school achievement plan.
  • Focused specifically on the improving achievement for all students.
  • Includes parents, principal, staff members, community members.
  •  School Council Positions
  • Chair: Jennifer Webber
  • Treasurer:  Daniel Haggett
  •  Principal’s Report
  • Renovations are almost complete.
  • New bus loop and parking lot are fabulous and increase student safety significantly.
  • Grade fours are heading to the Water Festival on September 18.
  • A great start to the year.
  •  Meet the Teacher
  • September 18 5:30 to 7:00
  • Would like to provide pizza and water for parents and students who come to the open house.
  • Need SCC volunteers to hand out pizza.  Arrive about 5:15.
  •  Overview of Changes
  • Outlined the significant changes throughout the school.
  •  Staffing Update
  • Pat Smith-Wendorf will be teaching grade 2/3 until the end of November and then Erica Wilson will be the teacher.
  • Ceri Sumner will be teaching Kindergarten phys. ed.
  •  Fundraising
  • If we do fundraising this year it will be for specific projects.
  • Hoping to have a used book sale to raise money to buy new books for the library.  Will organize this a bit later in the year.
  •  Future Meeting Dates
  • Would like to co-ordinate these with the CPF meetings so people only have to give up one evening.  Next meeting will be determined at CPF meeting on Monday evening.
